The Beauvallon: CopperCraft’s Contribution to a Mixed-Use Icon in Denver

The Beauvallon is a prominent mixed-use development in downtown Denver, Colorado. The post-tensioned concrete structure comprises two 14-story towers that house 208 luxury residential units. The lower levels of the building are dedicated to parking, commercial office space, and retail establishments, contributing to its role as a hub of urban activity. The building’s design incorporates both functional and aesthetic elements, blending residential, commercial, and architectural features.

A defining characteristic of The Beauvallon is its extensive use of copper in various architectural applications.

CopperCraft was engaged to provide custom copper elements, including dormers, roofing panels, flashing and trim, spires, and domes. These components were designed to enhance the building’s visual appeal while ensuring long-term performance. The integration of copper elements not only aligns with the building’s design goals but also supports its durability and functionality. Notably, the project features a rooftop pool and a European-style garden, further distinguishing it as a key structure in Denver’s skyline.

Project Details

The Beauvallon project required precise engineering and custom fabrication to meet its architectural and functional requirements. CopperCraft’s contributions to the project included:

  • Custom Dormers: CopperCraft fabricated self-contained dormer units, eliminating the need for additional framing. These dormers were engineered to streamline installation while maintaining their structural integrity and weather resistance.

  • Standing Seam Roofing Panels: Custom copper roofing panels were designed to provide both durability and aesthetic appeal. These panels contribute to the building’s weatherproofing and overall architectural coherence.

  • Custom Dome: The project features an 18-foot-6-inch dome designed and fabricated by CopperCraft. This dome, complete with spires and finials, serves as a prominent architectural element. The spires include hollow bases that can accommodate lightning arresting systems, highlighting CopperCraft’s attention to both design and functionality.

  • Roof Drainage Systems: CopperCraft created tailored roof drainage solutions for the project. These systems were fabricated to integrate seamlessly with the existing design and ensure effective water management, protecting the building’s structure and extending the lifespan of its roofing elements.

  • Engineering and Design Support: CopperCraft collaborated closely with architects and contractors to draft detailed design plans and provide engineering support. This approach ensured that construction proceeded efficiently and the final installation met the project’s specifications.

Finish Details

CopperCraft’s materials and fabrication processes were selected to support the long-term performance and visual appeal of The Beauvallon. Key finish details include:

  • Copper Patina Development: The natural aging process of the copper elements has resulted in a weathered patina. This patina not only enhances the building’s appearance but also provides additional protection against environmental factors.

  • Pre-Fabricated Dormers: The dormers were supplied as ready-to-install units, reducing on-site construction time and ensuring consistency in quality and fit.

  • Roof Drainage Integration: The custom-fabricated drainage systems were designed for compatibility with the building’s size and profile, ensuring effective rainwater management while maintaining aesthetic cohesion.

  • Spire and Finial Design: The spires and finials installed on the dome were crafted to architectural specifications. These elements, which are integral to the building’s design, were engineered with hollow bases to support functional applications such as lightning protection systems.
